The Day, Aloha-Fied

Morning — Waikiki & Diamond Head

Start where the water really is that shade of turquoise you do not quite believe in photos. Then hike Diamond Head, Oahu’s famous volcanic crater and natural front porch. Advance reservations are required for out-of-state visitors, and current admission and parking fees should be confirmed before arrival.

Midday — Duke, Surf & Snacks

Grab a surf lesson on Waikiki Beach, pay respects at the Duke Kahanamoku statue — and watch your pineapples, because Coco is around. Then refuel with poke bowls and shave ice, because it is basically the law here.

Afternoon — Pearl Harbor

The USS Arizona Memorial is quiet, white, and impossible to rush through, so reserve a meaningful part of the afternoon. Pair it with the Battleship Missouri, the USS Bowfin, and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum if you want the full “wait, I need another hour” experience.

Good to know: The official USS Arizona Memorial program does not have a general admission charge, although advance reservations may carry a small processing fee. Guided tours and admission to the partner sites are separately priced.

Evening — Sunset & Luau

Watch the sun drop behind Diamond Head, then close the day with a proper luau — kalua pig, fire-knife dancing, and the kind of feast that makes you glad you wore stretchy shorts.
